Timber Development UK

Establishing the largest, most comprehensive supply chain body for timber in the UK.
Almost 400 pieces of media coverage in TDUK's first year
Achieving 2.6 million coverage views and 4,400 social media shares
Timber Development UK was formed by the merger of two of the largest and longest-established organisations in the timber industry: the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) and the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA). It created a single supply chain organisation to promote all types of business in the timber supply chain, from sawmill to specifier.

Looking to capitalise on growing interest in designing with timber, Timber Development UK acts an agent of change towards more sustainable, low carbon forms of construction.

Challenge

Our challenge was to build a new voice in timber, strong enough to influence the future direction of construction in the UK.

To achieve this TDUK needed a knowledgeable, ideas-driven consultancy to help it become a ‘content creation engine’ to support suppliers and designers and to reach target audiences.

LMC was appointed in 2022 to support TDUK during its vital first year, communicating the organisation’s purpose and motivating its membership across timber importers, merchants, manufacturers, architects, designers, engineers, installers, contractors and trades.

Strategy

In order to quickly establish TDUK as the go-to organisation for timber construction, our work focused on a combination of thought leadership, news commentary and content generation to support the TDUK's rapidly expanding portfolio of publications, newsletters and other communication activities. Our work included:
  • Managing the TDUK press office, targeting priority media with comments, articles and releases.
  • A journalist contact programme for TDUK's spokespeople.
  • Creating detailed technical reports and case studies for TDUK’s resource library.
  • Developing collaborative communications campaigns with universities and industry organisations, with authoritative joint content.
  • Organising TDUK events and speaker programmes at industry events such as Futurebuild and Timber Expo.
  • In addition, LMC supported the official brand launch of TDUK at UK Construction Week which included the management and design of its award-winning stand.
