Political and industry support for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) has grown exponentially over recent years. MMC is often cited as the way to address the ongoing housing crisis, mitigate serious skills shortages, increase output, improve quality, reduce waste and help in the fight against climate change.
As the Construction Leadership Council’s ‘Modernise or Die’ report by Mark Farmer in 2016 puts it: “This is about creating a vibrant, re-skilled, fully integrated, more predictable and productive industry such that traditional working and new approaches can co-exist and complement each other.”
MMC covers a variety of technologies including modular, panel and pod construction, as well as 3D printing, brick slips and concrete formwork. In an effort to create a better understanding of MMC, in March 2019 the government launched its Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) definition framework, which sets out seven different categories of MMC, from 3D modular systems through to robots and drones used on site.Get in touch
