UK Construction Week

New code of conduct for more inclusive event marketing sets the standard - with blanket national media coverage including the R4 Today programme

UK Construction Week Main stage

UK Construction Week runs the country’s largest live events for construction and all its related trades and professions - including a London show every May, and the original show at the NEC, Birmingham in October.

Going viral

LMC's work with UK Construction Week developed over many years, starting with our campaign in 2018 to promote a new code of conduct on diversity, equality and inclusion.

This was the first time that any major trade show had set standards like this, including new rules around the use of promotional staff on exhibition stands.

Briefing materials were developed and approved within 24 hours. A spokesperson was coached to build confidence ahead of live broadcasts. We moved quickly to secure an exclusive with the BBC before offering it to wider media.

Two days of intensive broadcast and print interviews followed, including:

  • BBC Radio 4 Today programme
  • All BBC news bulletins and the World Service
  • ITV News
  • Reuters
  • Most UK national newspapers

The publicity generated by this campaign led to copycat changes in policy across multiple trade events across the UK and internationally, including MIPIM and FIT Show, and boosted the popularity of UK Construction Week's shows with exhibitors and visitors alike.

The campaign was highly commended at the 2019 International Building Press Awards.

Ongoing UKCW news

Following this initative, LMC was appointed to manage PR for the shows in 2018, 2019, 2021 and the new London show in 2022. We used PR to help generate interest in the lead-up to the shows and to attract delegate registrations, via promotion of:

  • New campaigns, research reports, keynote presentations or thought leadership initiatives linked to UKCW’s main themes around culture change, the future of construction, innovation, diversity, skills and role models
  • Special offers and competitions, exclusive product launches, live demos and CPDs
  • Interactive features and unique exhibits
  • 'Role Models' campaign
