The Institute of Public Relations - Committed to Professionalism
Here is a mixed bag of links to websites that you might find of interest. If you want to suggest any others, we're always interested in new sites - contact us.

Liz Male Consulting is not responsible for the content of anyone else's website (unless, of course, we created it for them!)

Institute of Public Relations - the professional institute for PR practitioners. Also check out CAPSIG (www.ipr.org.uk/groups) for news and events for PR professionals in construction and property.

Brand Republic - news and information on PR, marketing, advertising, direct marketing and new media.

All About Branding - a fantastic collection of articles and ideas about managing and shaping brands.

Adslogans Unlimited - check out the advertising slogan 'Hall of Fame' and get tips on how to create some of your own.

PR Watch - US site that exposes the 'activities of secretive, little known propaganda-for-hire firms that work to control political debates and public opinion'. Riveting stuff.

Urban 75 - George Monbiot's 'Activist's Guide to Exploiting the Media'. Don't ever assume an unhappy public will be a silent one.

Hold The Front Page - regional news portal and Europe's best journalism site in the NetMedia Awards 2002.

Ananova - the Press Association's excellent online news service.

Building - going strong since 1843 and still the best-regarded weekly magazine for the building industry.

Construction Plus - the news portal from Emap Construct, including access to the archives of The Architect's Journal, Construction News and New Civil Engineer.

Stephen Wright - highly recommended portrait, corporate and PR photographer.

Grant Smith - frankly, one of the very best specialist architectural, construction and industrial photographers you could ever hope to commission.

Common Errors in English Usage - online version of a very useful little book by Paul Brians, Professor of English at Washington State University.

The Economist Style Guide - a comprehensive guide to English usage, as given to all journalists at The Economist.

The Times Style & Usage Guide - online version of the book published in January 2003, plus quick access to useful sections on titles and politics.

Guardian Style Guide - less formal than The Times or The Economist, so worth a look if you're writing for a less 'traditional' audience.

Honor Society of Leap Year Babies - in recognition of the very special qualities of people born on the 29 February.

The Wordspy - new words and words used in new ways. One of my favourites is 'soul proprietor' - 'a businessperson or entrepreneur who balances work with emotional and spiritual growth'. Sounds about right to me.

Wordwizard - ever wondered where the word 'hoity-toity' came from? Wordwizard is a fascinating site, full of information on the origins of English words and phrases.

Stoke Goldington Steam Rally - our local claim to fame is one of the country's most vibrant and successful country fair attractions - the annual Steam Rally every May which attracts over 25,000 visitors to our lovely village. Don't miss it!

Stoke Goldington Association - the history of our village and online tour.

Adbusters - culture jammers, environmentalists, anti-consumerism campaigners, design innovators and organisers of TV Turnoff Week and Buy Nothing Day.

Online Guide to Dream Interpretation - everything you need to know about those weird dreams in which you're flying naked down the street.

The Tom Phillips website - about the work and brilliant mind of a true Renaissance man.

Emma Squire - a Devon based painter and mosaic artist, and fellow Exeter University and Fishburn Hedges alumna.

Gifted by Sophie Appleton - a delightful gift basket delivery service and the most wonderful way to surprise family and friends.
